Designating a day for a state of mind was designed to recognize “the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world,” and the importance of making happiness a goal of public policy, the UN said.
The goal is laudable–and incredibly difficult. There are problems with measuring happiness in a world so fundamentally unequal. And while happiness is a feeling not hard to express, it is very hard to quantify.
