How Venting About Stress Makes You The Most Stressful Person In The Room

http://ifttt.com/images/no_image_card.png It may feel good to talk out our daily doubts and fears, but those venting sessions may also affect other people -- and not always in a positive way.

Amanda Enayati, author of new book Seeking Serenity, joined HuffPost Live host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani to explain how exuding your stress can actually create a toxic environment for others, and why self-examination (rather than venting) is critical to building personal resilience.

"There's a concept called emotional contagion," Enayati said. "Our emotions are sticky, both good and bad, and in fact some argue that negative emotions have even more of an impact. So it's like a virus ... If you're complaining about how stressful your life is, the first thing you need to do is figure out what you're bringing into the room ... Stress is viral, so don't be the virus."
